Religious Education

Dursley C of E Primary Academy is a Church of England Academy and therefore Religious Education is provided in line with the funding agreement and the academy follows the Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education 2025-2030.

Religious Education enables all pupils to understand how religious and non-religious worldviews influence individuals, communities and society. The curriculum reflects the Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus and supports pupils to think deeply, respond respectfully and develop spiritually.

Curriculum Focus
• Christianity taught in every key stage.
• Judaism, Islam and Humanism in KS1.
• Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism in KS2, with exploration of other worldviews.

Our Approach
RE is taught through three strands: Making Sense of Belief, Understanding the Impact and Making Connections. Lessons include explicit vocabulary, structured discussion, retrieval practice and reflective opportunities.

Experiences
Learning is enhanced through visits to places of worship, visitors from faith communities and thoughtful links to wider curriculum themes.

Assessment and Impact
Learning is assessed through end-of-unit tasks and ongoing teacher assessment. Pupils develop secure knowledge of beliefs, respectful understanding of diversity, the ability to reflect, and confidence to articulate thoughtful responses.
