Special Educational Needs at Dursley

Dursley C of E Primary Academy is inclusive and we welcome all children. When a child has an identified special need or disability we work to meet those needs so that your child can shine brightly. We will do this firstly through our normal classroom practice, secondly if needed through providing additional in-house support and thirdly if needed through the involvement of other agencies. We also work to develop the children’s independence skills and resilience. Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information or advice, I can be contacted through the Academy Office.

Supporting children with English as a Additional Language at Dursley
We support children in developing the English language skills they need for learning. Teachers and teaching assistants guide them how to supporting the children's vocabulary and grammar acquisition in fun and interactive ways.

Activities include flashcard games, grammar activities, sentence writing and comprehension work. Parents can support their children by reading with them in their first language. We also have a range of picture books in children's first languages in school, which they can also listen to with our Talking Pens.
